The Rundown: Val thinks back on her time with Johnny as her friends try to determine who killed him.

Val finds herself thinking back on another aspect of her relationship with Johnny she looks for answers about his murder. An aspect that they kept hidden from their friend group as he went out as a superhero and came back to her for a series of romantic trysts that both kept hidden from everyone around them and close to them.

As the rest of the friend group continues to bicker about who could have killed their friend and stolen his high tech super suit, suspicions threaten to drive them apart as Val remembers something dark from their past that might hold a key to Johnny’s murder.

The Story: I am consistently blown away by how engaging this story is. All of the interpersonal relationships are complex and interesting and I love seeing the building of the romantic relationship between Val and Johnny intercut with the growing conflict between this group of friends. There is great suspense throughout the story as well and I enjoyed how it builds on that suspense right up to the cliffhanger which has me excited to see where the story goes next.

The Art: Mobili offers some beautifully detailed and visually engaging art in the issue. I really loved the visually softer romantic scenes and how they elicit a different emotion from the more dramatic scenes in the present.
