The team finally faces Doc Dread and nothing will be the same for The Terrifics.
Doc Dread has been revealed to be Java, Stagg’s long time assistant. His obsession with Stagg’s daughter Sapphire caused the neanderthal to devise an intricate ruse to separate Rex from Sapphire with the hope of making her his queen.
It doesn’t go according to plan when the Terrifics and Tom Strong arrive for retribution. Cornered, but unafraid, Java unleashes the re-animated corpse of the Dead Elder from the Dark Multiverse. Both teams find that they are unable to bring the creature down on their own, but Tom and Holt decide on a desperate gambit to stop the creature.
In the aftermath of the battle, both teams are tested and Phantom Girl has to realize everything in her life with this team is about to change, including the team itself.
This was a fun issue that does a great job of wrapping up some storylines while creating new ones in its wake. The new dynamic between the members of the Terrifics teams are going to be interesting to follow. Phantom Girl’s desire for a family, Plastic Man’s search for his own, Rex trying to forge a life with Sapphire and Terrific having to decide if being alone if all he is destined to be. Lemire opens those doors by telling human, compelling stories for these characters.
Viktor Bogdanovic’s art is absolutely astounding in this issue. The level of detail in both the character expressions and the action scenes is amazing. I loved the art in this book immensely.
