The Rundown: An ancient evil stalks the desert and a new Swamp Thing must discover his purpose.

A murder mystery in the desert brings up a story from the areas past. A story that might have more truth in it than fiction as the sheriff decides to stake out the area looking for a killer. At the same time, Levi Kamei is returning to New York from a trip to India, but something feels wrong. Something more than his nervousness flying is bothering him and it has everything to do with his trip home.

After landing back in the states, Levi is picked up by a friend, but he is also being watched. As he sleeps, something takes over and the creature stalking the desert is confronted by a new Swamp Thing. One that doesn’t know who or what he is and may not survive the encounter.

The Story: What makes this story work is that Ram V is giving a completely original and new story for the character. This new iteration of Swamp Thing has no memory of what he is and mixed with Levi’s personal drama, the story has interesting places to go and new plots and characters to explore. This first issue has captured my attention and I look forward to seeing what happens next.

The Art: Mike Perkins delivers some beautifully detailed art throughout the issue. The characters look great and the body horror elements in the characters are intriguing.
