The Silver Coin #2
Image Comics
Written by Kelly Thompson
Art, Colors and Letters by Michael Walsh
The Rundown: The dark journey of the silver coin continues as Fiona finds herself dealing with the summer camp from hell.
Fiona is looking forward to her first day of summer camp after spending the evening watching her favorite camp based horror movies. After arriving at the camp, she quickly discovers that she is not welcome by the pack of mean girls she finds herself bunking with. Things go from bad to worse as Fiona finds herself the target of constant and incrasingly cruel pranks and abuse.
After a particularly savage attack, Fiona flees into the woods where she finds a mysertious cabin where its owner is in possession of the silver coin. A coin that will cause a series of devastating events that will change Fiona’s world forever.
The Story: Thompson takes the reader back to the world of slasher films with this story and every part works because it leans into the familiar and makes it feel fresh and interesting because of the characters. You feel for Fiona throughout the story and Thompson does a brilliant job of moving the story in intriguing directions. The shift in tone once the silver coin is introduced is well done and both tragic and entertaining as the rest of the story unfolds.
The Art: Walsh does a beautiful job with the art in this issue. Everything has a distinct and classic feel to it and there are some great visuals that perfectly match the mood and tone of the story.
