The Rundown: Ernie goes undercover but refuses to stop being a Scumbag.
Ernie and his team head to a party thrown by Scorpionus and they need Ernie to use his powers to find their hidden computer lab. Unfortunately, Ernie is going to get distracted by the type of party they find themselves at. A party that checks off every box on a Scumbags checklist and he is prepared to sweeten the deal with a briefcase full of drugs. A prospect that leaves his partner Mary alone to complete the mission without him.
When Ernie is brought into the meeting room of the man in charge, he is immediately outed as an agent after deciding to spout his personal beliefs, but instead of killing Ernie, they decide to offer him his wildest dreams imagined. The question then becomes just how much of a scumbag is Ernie?
The Story: Remender offers a fun and hilarious take on Bond-style espionage thrillers in this issue by having the characters dropped into a situation that is too tempting for someone like Ernie to ignore. The dialogue is fantastic and Ernie is consistent in his behavior which makes the attempt to recruit him more intriguing given the kind of person Ernie is. An engaging read that is filled with surprises.
The Art: Eric Powell delivers some fantastic art in this issue. There are great visuals throughout and Powell seems to be having fun with both the subject matter and the characters.
