The Rundown: A woman working in Hollywood will cross paths with the powerful and mysterious Thessaly.
Tommi has been tasked with reaching out to the writer of the movie based on the life and death of Madison Flynn. While dealing with her complicated and unfulfilling personal life, she pays the writer a visit only to discover that Thessaly has taken residence in his home and is using it and him for her own purposes.
After securing Tommi and getting her to do Thessaly’s bidding in order to get closer to the power behind this production, Thessaly offers Tommi a chance to learn her story. A story that will include some familiar faces and a warning to Thessaly that there are other more powerful entities watching events unfold and her.
The Story: A great addition to the universe of the Sandman as well as a wonderful dive into the character of Thessaly. James Tynion IV does a fantastic job of not only keeping this story in line with the bigger narrative, but it gives the reader an insight into Thessaly and some of the events that drive her personality. I love that the character has no side in events other than protecting herself and the tease that she is part of something bigger makes me excited to see what’s next for her.
The Art: Llovet delivers some beautiful art in the issue. The visuals are ethereal and brilliantly capture the tone and mood of the story and its characters.
