The Rundown: Soluna finds herself among the world and discovers a dark power within her.
Soluna manages to escape those hunting her, but she is also alone and starving in a world she’s never seen before. As she makes her way to a small town, she finds herself dealing with the scorn of the villagers who see her only as a beggar. As her hunger grows, she discovers that even the priests of her father’s temple will not help her.
As she runs from local authorities and tries desperately to survive, the trauma of her treatment unleashes a dark power that will lead to devastation. She will also discover a small act of kindness amidst the darkness.
The Story: Remender adds a new, dark and interesting wrinkle to this story. From the intense drama of the last issue, focusing this one on the journey of princess Soluna adds more context to this world and the forces at work within it. I like the dark tone of this issue and what it means for her journey and her relation to the world. Things are getting more interesting in this series and I am here for this journey and the characters evolving within it.
The Art: Araujo delivers some fantastic art throughout the story. The level of detail on both the characters and environment is remarkable and the imagery immerses the reader in the world of this story.
