The Rundown: A family of adventurers find themselves on the run to the one place they could be safe, the past.
The Rocketfeller family is on the run from something that the parents are trying to protect their children from. Something that the people chasing them consider the fate of humanity. As they are hunted, they find themselves facing off against a terrible foe and one of them will have to stay behind to give them a chance to reach possible salvation in the form of a ship that will bring them to the past, specifically the year 2024.
As they attempt to make their way together in the year 2024, their lives in the 25th century continue to call to them. Even their Thanksgiving barbecue has a little tension throughout it and in the aftermath of events, the father Roland communicates with his brother in the future and discovers that they might be staying there longer than they thought.
The Story: Peter J. Tomasi crafts an engaging and thrilling story in this first issue. I really enjoyed every beat of this story from the comedy to the action and suspense. The characters are interesting and the premise was immediately compelling and entertaining. There is great tension throughout the issue and the character interactions are wonderful. I look forward to seeing how this story progresses and this first issue has definitely made me interested in the series itself.
The Art: Manapul’s art is absolutely stunning. From the character designs to the visually immersive environments, I loved every page and panel of this issue.
