The Rundown: Daisy works on the mysterious puzzle box as she tries to return to some semblance of normalcy.
The mysterious puzzle box Daisy received in the mail has given her some rare moments to forget her loss and concentrate on something that brings her joy. When she worked out the intricate twists and turns of the device, she finds a name and number located in the mechanism. Another distraction in the form of her friend comes later and she has a rare night out that allows her to forget about the strange visions she’s been having, but the dark world she’s connected to hasn’t forgotten about her.
After seeing her doctor, she decides to call the number and arranges to meet with the mystery man on the other end of the line but that night brings more strange visions and the creature stalking her gets closer than before.
The Story: Jeremy Haun continues the slow, deliberate burn of this story and allows the reader to become both immersed in this world and in Daisy’s story. The dialogue is well crafted and the story is paced to bring the action to a haunting and scary conclusion. I continue to be amazed and intrigued at the world of this story and can’t wait to return to it each month to unlock its secrets.
The Art: Danny Luckert’s visuals are hauntingly beautiful. There is a perfect mixture of detailed character moments and disturbing panels that force the eye to look closer and closer until the reader is immersed in the dark imagery. I love every moment and am drawn to the dark creature stalking Daisy.
