The Rundown: People with superpowers plot to both survive and save the world.
In the 60’s, a powered woman named Valentina and a man named Etienne have a tense conversation about the fate of the world as more people emerge with powers. As they discuss the possible future, they decide to begin a plan that will take years to unfold.
Thirty years later, Etienne meets with another with powers as the charismatic leader of a powered cult travels across the water on their way to the states. A trip that will cause chaos when they are attacked and Etienne is forced to perform an unspeakable act to keep the fragile peace.
The Story: Gillen crafts a dark, ominous and brilliantly entertaining story in this first issue. It has an awesome narrative edge to it as well as compelling characters immersed in an intriguing mystery. I am fascinated by the world of this story and the machinations of the characters within it. There is an interesting plan and plot being woven throughout this first issue and it makes me excited to see what happens in the next issue.
The Art: Wijngaard delivers some fantastic art in the issue. Both the character moments and the moments of power delivers awesomely detailed visuals.
