The Rundown: Two more stories highlight the adventures of the immortal warriors.
Many Happy Returns
At a Paris museum, an exhibit about the Napoleonic Wars prompts a memory for a mysterious patron. In the aftermath, Andy and Nile devise a plan to infiltrate the museum to retrieve an item of special interest to a friend, but Andy is prepared for battle. As the two work Nile’s plan, the true significance of the object is revealed as well as its impact on its immortal owner.
This is a great short story from Ayala. It showcases the deep history these characters have with each other as well as the emotional toll immortality has on one of them. The art is fantastic as well and perfectly captures the tone and mood of the story.
The Bear
Isaac is a simple man living a simple life in the woods. Every few months he comes down from the mountain to town to get supplies and pick up his packages. His relationship with the locals is sweet and friendly and they always look forward to him coming down to see them. None of them know his secret. After he returns to his home and his research, he is attacked by a creature in the woods and when his nature is revealed, he and the creature form an interesting bond.
This is another great short story that brilliantly paints a picture of who a character is while keeping enough mystery to be compelling. The art is also brilliant in its detail, tone and connection to the story.
