The Rundown: Two new stories chronicle the members of the Old Guard as they navigate immortality.
An Old Soul
Book is drunk and wandering the streets of Times Square in 1978. Both emotionally and spiritually lost, he wanders into the sermon of a group of nuns who have a unique perspective on salvation. After showing them his immortality, the scene shifts to months later when Andy has to swoop in and save him. Unfortunately, she discovers that might not be what he wanted.
A brilliantly told story that is rich and interesting. There is some great dialogue throughout and great humor as well. I loved the twists in this story and was surprised at several moments. The art is also incredible and filled with great action and detail.
Never Gets Old
Sebastien aka Booker takes a guest to dinner in the aftermath of the French Revolution. After marveling at the state of a new renaissance for France, the two find themselves dealing with a rude customer who finds the price of his meal outrageous after gorging himself on food and wine. After being egged on by Booker’s guest, the man seems to calm down until Booker says something to set him off into a violent rage.
A solid story that showcases the character and his colorful past as well as his personal loss in the form of his guest. A well done story that is filled with great art that showcases the beautiful environment and the time of the tale.
