The Rundown: Sam and Duncan get a lead on where their daughter is being held, but it’s a location filled with danger and a dark truth.

Sam is no stranger to dealing with the grief of not being able to reach someone who is alive, but unresponsive as she sits at the bed of her dying mother years before tragedy struck her family again. Sam and Duncan return to the dream world and discover that they’re allies might have found Penny’s location.

Unfortunately, Duncan’s reluctance in the last fight continues to create tension between the couple as Sam is willing to do and risk anything to find Penny and bring her back to the waking world. As the pair find her sleeping form in a dark castle, the dangerous entity guarding her not only attacks, but reveals that it is someone close to Sam.

The Story: Daniel Warren Johnson continues to craft a heartbreaking, engaging and compelling story in this issue. There are so many wonderful character moments and tension both external and interpersonal as Sam and Duncan continue to clash over what they are doing and how Sam’s past trauma is informing her reckless actions to save her daughter. The drama in this story is great and Johnson throws a curveball at the end of this issue that adds more drama to the mission and I want to see how it plays out.

The Art: Daniel Warren Johnson and Riley Rossmo have beautifully complementary art styles and they work beautifully in this issue to both showcase blistering action, but also deep heartache and emotion. There are some beautiful visuals throughout this issue and the final reveal was stunning.
