The Rundown: Sam and Duncan discover a way to save their daughter’ life from a land of dreams.

Sam and Duncan have a wonderful life with their daughter Penny. A life that takes a dramatic and tragic turn when she goes to bed one night and does not wake up. Months later, after going to multiple specialists, the parents are desperate and find themselves being confronted by an owl that prompts them to come to the roof of the hospital.

As they make their way to the roof, they are confronted by a mysterious old man being carried by owls. He tells them that he knows a way to help Penny and proceeds to bring the parents into their daughter’s dream world. A world filled with walking, talking representations of her real life toys and a threat that is consuming the world around them.

The Story: Daniel Warren Johnson brilliantly follows up on the action, mystery and fantasy of the first issue by crafting a story that captures the pain of the main characters as well as hints at the mystery of the dream world their daughter is trapped in. There is great drama throughout the issue and a compelling story of desperate parents willing to do whatever it takes to save their daughter. I have become deeply involved in this story and these characters just from the first two issues and look forward to seeing what happens next.

The Art: Rossmo delivers a truly magical world in this issue. I love the visual style and how it beautifully blends the reality of what the parents are going through with the fantastical world the need to explore.
