The Rundown: Desperate parents risk it all to save their daughter from a dangerous land.
Duncan and Sam wait on the outskirts of a heavily guarded medieval castle waiting for their contact before moving in. Unable to continue waiting, Sam and Duncan move in and infiltrate the castle. After a brief encounter, the pair meet with their contact and a creature that could have what they need in order to rescue their daughter Penny.
As the couple fight their way through the castle after giving up something of value to the creature, mother and father find themselves in a dangerous battle that will force them to leave this strange world and re-dedicate themselves to saving their child whatever it takes.
The Story: Daniel Warren Johnson creates something conceptually interesting in the first issue of this series. The characters are immediately engaging and the story lays out the stakes in a way keeps the momentum of the action and drama moving smoothly forward. There is great action throughout the first issue and I loved the dark and engaging tone of it as well as how thrilling it was. A compelling, dark and intriguing story of parents doing whatever they have to do to rescue their child.
The Art: Daniel Warren Johnson and Riley Rossmo deliver some impressive and beautifully detailed art throughout the issue. I loved how well the two style complement each other in both character design and action.
