The Rundown: Peter looks for adventure and finds a dangerous new adversary.

In the wake of watching Captain Hook get eaten by a crocodile, Smee and the other pirates are distraught and Peter begins to wonder if what Hook told him was true. Undeterred, he goes to visit the lost boys, who are now men with families and hears of a new threat from the mysterious Phantom King.

In the real world, Wendy stays by her ailing father’s side as her brothers arrive. When John tells him that their father doesn’t have much time left, Wendy’s mother decides to accelerate her plans to marry her off. Peter travels to confront the Phantom King and their battle results in something Peter never anticipated.

The Story: Panosian continues to craft an interesting and unexpected story in this follow up issue. The plot is filled with great character moments and surprises and I love the contrast in tone between Peter’s story and Wendy’s. I like seeing that the world of Neverland continues to change and grow while Peter is completely oblivious to it and the confrontation with the Phantom King was brilliantly executed to deliver a satisfying cliffhanger.

The Art: Avallone offers some beautifully detailed and visually stunning fantasy art throughout the issue. I love the visual contrast between the lush, vibrant world of Neverland and the drab, gray tones of the real world.
