The Rundown: Peter Pan confronts Captain Hook, but something about the world is changing.

At Hangman’s Tree, Tinkerbell tells Peter Pan of a conspiracy involving Captain Hook and the natives on the island. Seeing adventure ahead, Peter heads to the natives to discover what the pirates have done and how he can help. At the same time, an adult Wendy tends to her ailing father as she seeks to begin a new life as a writer.
Back in Neverland, Peter is confronted by the new chief of the tribe Tiger Lily, but he refuses to believe that they have made peace with the pirates. Peter confronts Hook on his ship, but can’t seem to see that the old pirate is not interested in fighting him anymore. As Peter attacks the pirates, his actions could lead to a tragic end.
The Story: Panosian creates an engaging and tragic story in this first issue. The tragedy comes from seeing a Peter Pan so ingrained in his own past that he cannot or will not see his world changing and evolving around him. It creates some interesting moments for the character and I love that while Peter is holding onto the past in Neverland, Wendy is forging her own future in London. I’m intrigued to see how this story evolves and look forward to the follow up issue.
The Art: Avallone delivers beautiful art throughout the issue. I really enjoyed the visual style of the story and the character designs.
