The Rundown: Red Sonja takes on a new adventure. One that will make her invincible.
Red Sonja is traveling by sea and looking for adventure with a group of pirates. After finding out about a ship in the area, the pirates go in search of it and bring back its spoils. Among them are a box containing an unusual bounty, a princess. With the Captain set to give the woman over to the crew as a prize, Sonja steps in to save the young woman before she escapes and dives into the sea.
After a night of drinking on the ship, Sonja awakens to find the crew missing and the ship sinking. After fighting off a horde of sirens, Sonja finds her adrift and is rescued by a familiar face who has a proposal for the warrior. A proposal that will lead Red Sonja into a new dilemma and the inability to be killed.
The Story: Palmiotti and Conner craft an interesting story in this first issue. There is a lot of action and adventure to be had in the plot and the dialogue is engaging. Sonja is a strong and intriguing character and her adventures and personality draw you in as a reader. The beginning of the issue promises some interesting character and plot moments to come for Sonja and I am interested in seeing them explored.
The Art: Moritat delivers some impressive and beautifully brutal visuals throughout the issue. The fight scenes are brilliantly laid out and impressive in both their detail and energy.
