The Rundown: James Rhodes recruits some unusual help to take on Orchis.
War Machine makes a trip to the Bar with No Name to recruit supervillains to fight the Orchis forces still amassed in New York. Using a hidden cache of weapons, the villains take on the sentinels tearing through the city while Iron Man fights mutated Orchis soldiers on the west coast.
After discovering what happened to his weapons, Stark heads to New York to fight alongside his old friend against the forces amassed there and the two deal with some interpersonal conflict on the battlefield.
The Story: Duggan crafts some entertaining action throughout this issue. While it is really fun, it is also way too short for all of the threads that have been building throughout this series and this arc. I wanted more of Rhodey and his journey out of prison and his confrontation with Tony felt reductive given what he suffered and why. I like a lot of the ideas introduced in the issue and look forward to seeing where those threads lead, but I was expecting more from his story and it didn’t really deliver.
The Art: Di Vito crafts some great art in the issue. There is a wonderful old school feel to the visuals which I enjoyed and the visual elements of the old armor jokes were beautifully handled.
