The Rundown: The son of the Devil is dying and calls in his wayward children to finish his mission on Earth.
Abraham Morgenstern has an interesting and almost biblical birth that is interrupted by the minions of hell that collect him to fulfill his destiny as the antichrist. Years later, Abe is dying of cancer and the lack of intervention from his father forces him to make his own plans to fulfill his destiny with the help of his three children.
His children use their powers to sow destruction in small ways around the world until there are called by their father to begin a new mission that will bring about the apocalypse. A mission that will hit a snag when opposing forces begin their plans for the world.
The Story: Gardner and Parrott deliver an intriguing story in this first issue. There is some interesting world building going on in the story and the characters are dark, interesting and wonderfully complex in both their personalities and motivations. The story is interesting as well as it weaves great interpersonal drama with a bigger story with some delightful complications I want to see explored.
The Art: Pearson and Bonato deliver fantastic art in the issue. The visuals are beautifully detailed and immersive.
