The Rundown: Hulk takes on a threat that can manipulate anyone and McGowan reflects on her new circumstances.
McGowan relives her history as an employee of the Kingpin. She recounts creating designer drugs using DNA from mutants and how her actions eventually put her in the crosshairs of another hero. She contemplates where her journey has taken her as she sees Hulk attack the creature who seems to have swooped in to save the day.
Hulk recognizes Xemnu and attacks as the creature manipulates everyone around to believe that it is there to help. Unfortunately, the fight frees the parasites that were attacking people and everyone working with Hulk including Rick have to find a way to stop him and in stopping him cause the creature’s powers to grow.
The Story: There are things to enjoy in this issue and the Hulk vs Xemnu story was really strong. Unfortunately, I wanted more of that and its consequences and less of the McGowan story. If anything, her story should have been expanded to its own issue and fleshed out. Both stories were made weaker for being shoved together. Hopefully, the next issue will find its focus.
The Art: Bennett and Rodriguez deliver some great art in this issue. The action looked great and all of the panels are filled with great details.
