The Rundown: At the funeral of their father, six step-siblings discover they are part of a dark bargain.
A man named Jamison Kreel is dead and his six children from six different mothers have arrived at his strange funeral after being beckoned. As they meet each other for the first time, they are greeted by a mysterious man who tells them that they have inherited something from their late father. Unfortunately, it’s not something any of them want.
As the man proceeds to turn into a demon, he informs the children that they are bound to dark deals that their father made. Dark deals that have given them powers that they use to try to escape, but an attack in the aftermath will show that they might need to band together to survive.
The Story: Bunn crafts a strange, engaging and entertaining tale in this first issue. The action and plot are immediate, which is something that I appreciate. I really like the personalities of the different characters and how they are both unique and compelling on their own. Bunn crafts an intriguing premise in this story and there is a wonderful immediacy to the action and adventure with some huge stakes that make me interested in seeing where this story goes next.
The Art: Bocardo delivers some beautifully dark and detailed art throughout the issue. I love the visual style of this story and how it pushes the horror elements with the characters and their environment.
