The Green Lantern of sector 2018.2 finds himself in a pitched battle between himself and a crew of space pirates trying to steal a probability device from an intergalactic casino. After securing the device and the prisoners, an unknown threat attacks the transport, freeing the prisoners and fatally wounding the Lantern.
After the prisoners crash on Earth, they find themselves in the crosshairs of Hal Jordan himself and he is not in the mood for the invaders. His intervention not only brings down the escaped prisoners, but it exposes a plot that could have devastating effects on the Green Lantern Corps itself.
Morrison is telling a new kind of story for Hal Jordan. There is a lot of dialogue in this issue and the central concepts and characters are introduced well. The introduction of the issue was a little clunky and scattered, but the overall concept of the issue was sound. There is something enjoyable in Morrison’s depiction of Jordan’s circumstances and the dialogue is well written and lively for the character. The bravado and confidence are there and they serve the character well in this issue.
The artwork in this issue is beautiful. I marveled at the panels and the attention to detail to everything from the characters to the textures inside a space ship. There are some truly gorgeous visuals in this issue and they enhance everything in the story from start to finish.
