The Rundown: The first female president faces dangerous times as her family faces something darker.

Newly elected President Doyle and her family have moved into the White House and the parents are doing their best to keep things as normal as they can for their teenage children. At the same time, Doyle faces growing instability around the world including a possible threat to the country’s agents in the field and a political rival threatens to bring her agenda to a halt.

The President’s children Kevin and Mara find themselves starting at a new school where they are immediately separated by the social web surrounding them as Kevin compromises for popularity and Mara finds herself more isolated. Things become more difficult as Mara’s immersion into the darkness of the social media about her mother possibly unlocks an even darker force.

The Story: Hannah Rose May delivers an entertaining and thrilling story in this first issue. I was blown away by the atmosphere of this story, its wonderfully dark and engaging tone and how interesting the characters and premise are from the first few pages. There is a great commentary on current social discourse, modern politics and more. I love the darkness looming in the corners of this story and how it is seeping into the lives of the family. The story creates some huge stakes for the characters and I can’t wait to see what happens as that darkness continues to spread.

The Art: Del Rey delivers some fantastic art throughout the issue. The visuals have a wonderful style and tone that perfectly matches the tone of the story.
