The Rundown: Ruin finds himself away from his friends and presented with something unexpected.
Heather After has managed to end the rule of the current queen of Faerie and capture the creature influencing her. As Titania and Auberon ponder what they should do next, their former ruler has some choice words about the way they ran the world before she usurped them. With that mess seemingly behind them, Heather and Jophiel attempt to leave Faerie with a spell she placed on her boyfriend.
Unbeknownst to everyone, Heather used a similar spell on Ruin One that will nudge fate in a way that brings the nightmare exactly what he was searching for. Unfortunately, using that kind of magic has consequences. Consequences that will force Dream to intervene.
The Story: Wilson brings this arc to a satisfying and impressive conclusion. All of the elements from the love story, the narration and the humor work and work well. Wilson captures the world created by Neil Gaiman and expands it in ways that surprise and delight as characters have revelations and insights that capture the imagination. I love the call backs to previous stories as well and enjoy the connective tissue of these characters interpersonal relationships. I cannot wait to see where this story and these characters go next.
The Art: Nick Robles delivers some magical imagery to this issue that is breathtaking. Every page is filled with beautiful details and the world being shaped and presented is brilliantly conceived and expressed.
