The realm of Dreams is more vulnerable than anyone thought and the absence of Dream himself is making everyone restless. Cracks in the realm are starting to bring forth creatures with form or function and their intention are unknown. They are being penned up, but the strange manifestations and changes in the realm are starting to worry Lucien and others. They are calling more and more for Dream to return and that’s making Lucien and Matthew desperate to find a way to keep everyone happy.
Dora finds herself going back to old habits as she and her new partner find themselves invading the dreams of others to steal items that she plans to sell to an interested party in Hell. When her liaison with the low-level demon has unintended consequences, Lucien must use his wits to try to save the realm from an invading demon.
Spurrier crafts a great story with this first issue. I found myself engrossed in the characters and thinking often about the world that is being crafted and how this story will connect with the others that are being created. The characters are well written and their conflicts are creating some amazing drama and story. There are so many story elements that are being explored with these characters that I found myself drawn to each one of their stories individually and in relation to each other.
Evely’s art is sublime. I loved every panel and found myself drawn to the smallest details in both the foreground and background action. I loved it and want to see an expanse of these visuals in the next issue.
