The Rundown: Three friends find themselves in the middle of an alien mystery.

Destiny meets the first of her true friends after being bullied in school and is quickly introduced to another as the three bond over their mutual love of space. In the present, the three adults continue to pursue their interest together as the demands of adult life threaten to tear the small group apart.

After meeting in the woods one night to investigate some readings Max discovered, the three find themselves witnessing the crash of an alien ship. A crash that will reveal the pilot and a power the three of them will be exposed to.

The Story: Many of the elements Zdarsky creates in this first issue are fun. Unfortunately, most of the plot suffers from too many cliché character moments that took me out of the story. The “Mean Girl” intro and the nerdy computer friend trope felt tired. The alien crash was interesting and the introduction of the powers was intriguing as well. It has the makings of an interesting series that I hope finds a way to do something new with the genre.

The Art: Stott delivers some beautiful art in the issue. The action is thrilling and the characters look great.
