The first panels of this issue prove two things: You don’t turn down a job offer from Captain America and S.H.I.E.L.D techs can be a little lazy when they’re out of work for a while. At the newly formed Deadpool Task Force, Maria Hill is having a meeting when Hawkeye shows up not acting like himself. It’s hilarious to see everyone in the room react to it, knowing who it actually is and when Clint and Kate both arrive there is a moment that made me laugh out loud (Secret Invasion joke).
It gets even weirder when Clint and Kate try to reason with Wade during his escape and he gives them some info about where they were hiding during Secret Empire. It’s nice to see that his anger is a little more focused now and that he knows where Stevil Rogers lies in the story and the side story with Adsit and his mission to return to Earth to avenge Coulson is a pretty interesting aside that I hope pays off in a huge way next issue.
This issue definitely serves as a huge buildup to issue 300 so the story is a little light on plot, but makes up for it by recapping what we need to know going into the next part of the story. The art is amazing and there are some really great action panels that do a great job of reminding the reader of the skills these characters possess. The writing was really sharp in the character moments outside of exposition and there were some genuine funny moments in the plot itself. Definitely worth reading to get to the reveal at the end that might make the difference in stopping Deadpool short of killing him.
