"The Day Will Come When You Won't Be" The Walking Dead S7x01 Review

As I sit here trying to write this review, I’m finding it hard to even find the words to begin. This past Sunday night’s episode was by far the most brutal, damaging, and well written episode that has ever been aired for The Walking Dead. To say that it was a great episode almost feels wrong. This feeling of dread and loss is absolutely a testament to the emotional connection that The Walking Dead has made with it’s viewers, myself included.

Sunday night’s episode picked up immediately where Season 6 left off and didn’t miss a beat. I feared for my favorite characters and held my loved ones tight. Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s performance of Negan, the brutal and sociopathic leader of the Saviors, was haunting and exceptional. The accuracy of Negan compared to the comics was uncanny with much of his dialogue ripped straight from the panels of issue #100.

Everything from the intensity of the episode, the way the characters final moments were written, to the new “understanding” between Rick and Negan were executed flawlessly. I was completely drawn into the episode, so much so that I am simultaneously looking forward to and dreading this week’s upcoming episode.

As heartbreaking as it was to see two of my beloved favorites meet their horrible end at the hands of Negan and Lucille, I am excited to see how our group grows from this and what stories will spin out of this to add to our ever expanding world of The Walking Dead.
