The Rundown: The Avengers are called to a meeting by Doom to justify why they haven’t saved the world.
With the number of prisoners in their new base growing, Black Panther decides to go on a dangerous solo mission to determine how much of a threat they continue to pose in their prison. At the same time, Carol and Storm discuss her addition to the Avengers team before the entire team is summoned by Doctor Doom to a meeting in the desert.
After the team arrives, Doom presents them with a question about why they haven’t used their power to “save” the world and challenges that power with a magically based attack. An attack that will lead Doom to make a decision about how he will wield his power as the new Sorcerer Supreme.
The Story: MacKay creates a fantastic story in this issue that not only ramps up the tension, but teases some big conflicts and moments to come as Doom rises in power. I love the cerebral nature of this story and how every moment with the characters and their interactions with Doom solidify why this team works so well. There are some tense moments throughout the story and I really loved the final moments with the team as Vision perfectly summarizes the true point of Doom’s confrontation and what that could mean going forward.
The Art: Karami delivers some beautifully stylish and visually exciting art throughout the issue. There are so many great visual details throughout the issue and I loved the style.
