Things are changing for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and the next big threat could be closer to home for the new team.

Carol Danvers decides to spend some time with Robbie Reyes in order to learn more about the new Ghost Rider and more specifically, about any potential threats his car might be to the team. It’s a fun that allows Robbie to begin to grasp the scope of what he’s signed onto as an Avenger.

Thor and Jennifer Walters go on their first official date. So where does the god of thunder take a attractive attorney on their first date? The Savage Land to drink mead, eat turkey legs and watch dinosaurs battle. This twisted take on Medieval Times does not go over well with Jennifer and she decides to leave because she believes that Thor wanted to go on a date with She-Hulk. Have to give Thor credit for managing to save the date with some well thought out words.

Back at Avengers Mountain, T’Challa is hosting a dinner for a group of international superheroes including Shaman, Sabra, Captain Britain, Sunfire and others. Panther wants to foster a sense of unity and cooperation between the heroes of each nation in order to exchange information and help each other against threats. While most of the heroes in the room agree, Ursa Major of the Winter Guard is the only one to bring up the elephant not in the room. There is no representative from the United States and an incident in Alaska eludes their intelligence and understanding.

In Washington, we get to see a new side to Agent Phil Coulson. Ever since his resurrection, he’s taken a darker turn in dealing with threats to the US and when he discovers a spy for Black Panther working in the government, he takes an extreme turn in dealing with him. It’s a pretty dark turn of events for the character, but it is a reminder that Coulson is a former SHIELD agent and that position didn’t come from being a nice guy.

Jason Aaron does a great job of slowing down the action of the previous few issues to dive into the intrigue surrounding this new Avengers team and its place in the world post Secret Empire. I really enjoy how Coulson is used in this issue and how it sets him up to be a really interesting character. Stripping away his hero worship persona allows for the real agent to come through and I look forward to seeing how he navigates his resurrection. A really well done and entertaining aside that sets up some interesting character and plot details.
