The Rundown: Ben’s plans get interrupted by a visit from an old foe.
At the Beyond headquarters in Midtown, the office gets an unexpected visitor in the form of Doctor Octopus. At the same time, Ben faces some intense therapy as he deals with his trauma about the loss of Uncle Ben. Therapy that actually has some positive results due to the Beyond technology he is using. Feeling better, Ben decides to take Janine out on the town.
Unfortunately, their date is interrupted when Ben is dispatched to protect Beyond assets and take down Otto. Ben confronts Otto who tells him he’s come for some technology Beyond stole from him. After battling it out, Ben finds himself waking up in the medical bay with a furious Maxine wanting to know where her property is and a determined Otto Octavius making another surprise visit to Beyond Corporation.
The Story: Ben’s personal life continues to be interesting, but it still hasn’t found a level of compelling that makes me care as a reader. Janine’s exasperation would have more emotional weight if there were an issue that dealt with her life in the penthouse. The bigger story continues to be interesting and I like the part Octavius is playing in it. Hopefully, it will serve as a catalyst to moving the arc forward in a way that makes me care more about Ben’s place in it. The humor works really well and I hope to see more of that tone going forward.
The Art: Medina delivers some beautiful visuals throughout the issue. There are some stunning character shots and the action looks fantastic.
