The Rundown: Spider-Man has a final showdown with the Goblin for the fate of his own soul.
Spider-Man and Norman Osborn face off beneath Oscorp, but the Goblin doesn’t want Norman anymore, it wants Peter Parker and more importantly, his soul to inhabit. Norman reveals the truth about why Goblin is so obsessed with Peter and it gives Spider-Man time to implement a new plan with the spear.
As the two square off beneath the building, Kraven prevents anyone from helping Spider-Man because he wants to see how events will unfold and with Peter’s future in the balance, Spider-Man will have to fight for his soul against a creature that has stalked him for most of his life.
The Story: I’ve been on the fence with a lot of the storylines that Wells has created for Spider-Man in this series and while most of it was annoying at several moments, the final issue of this arc shows me that Wells does understand who Spider-Man is fundamentally. There are moments that emphasize that better stories could have been told in this series if the essence of the character was emphasized and not just his trauma. Spider-Man does not have to constantly be in emotional pain to be effective and I hope future writers of this series realize that.
The Art: McGuiness delivers some great art throughout the issue. I love the vibrant and detailed art style and how it reflects the emotions of the characters.
