The Rundown: Spidey and Boomerang go on a hunt across the city for pieces of a powerful weapon.
With all the cards on the table, Boomerang finally reveals to Spider-Man what Kingpin wants with him and it is an item that Spidey is familiar with for all the wrong reasons. Teaming up with his former enemy, Spider-Man and Boomerang scour the city looking for the pieces of an object of immeasurable power. An object that Kingpin has been after for years. As the pair discover most of the missing pieces and tangling with a horde of Vermin clones beneath the city, a new threat arises that threatens to end their quest. At the same time, Kingpin gets some good news about the object and its location.
The Story: Nick Spencer goes deep into Spidey’s past for this story. The dynamic between Spidey and Boomerang is fun to see play out and Spencer does some masterful work with the dialogue and the humor. Kingpin is given the menace he deserves and the fact that he’s mayor of the city enhances how dangerous a character he is and the threat he poses. The story is fun and doesn’t take itself too seriously as the pair find a begrudging friendship in their quest. It will be interesting to see how this story plays out as it progresses.
The Art: Ryan Ottley’s art is fantastic. From the character expressions to the action, Ottley knows how to make these characters leap off the page and bring to life the energy and excitement of the story.
