Hunted begins in the pages of this issue.

Kraven knows that his current life is unfulfilling. He knows that the method of his return brings him no peace because of how he chose to leave this life. He also knows the curse that is keeping him from returning to the embrace of death. In order for the former hunter to find peace, he has orchestrated the mother of all hunts. All he needs is the final piece.

Spider-Man is swinging through the streets, sick as a dog. Under the weather or not, Peter has received Felicia’s call for help and is racing to the location the Spider tracer is pointing him towards. He knows that Billy Connors has been taken as well and is determined to free them both as he puts together the clues that are leading him to the man he knows is responsible. When he arrives at the location, he finds that it isn’t Kraven that he’s facing in the dark, it’s his cloned son. Already fatigued from being sick, Spidey is already compromised. What makes matters worse is young Kraven is using a hallucinogenic gas that feeds him the delusion that MJ is being killed in order to distract him.

When Peter wakes up, he finds himself in Kraven’s endgame. An impenetrable dome is covering the city, Spidey has been put into his black costume and all of the villains that were captured have been released. Before they can take their revenge on the wall crawler, they all come face to face with the fact that they are all being hunted.

Nick Spencer starts this arc off with both guns blazing. The pace is great. The dialogue is engaging and the story works from start to finish. Kraven’s motivations are mysterious and draw in the reader to want to know more. There is the potential for some great tension and drama in this arc based on how solid this issue is. Can’t wait to see where it goes next.

Humberto Ramos does some truly magnificent art in this issue with some dramatic camera angles in the panels as well as beautiful details. A great looking issue with an engaging story.
