Thor Ragnarok director Taika Waititi is returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the next adventure of the God of Thunder.
According to an exclusive from The Hollywood Reporter, Waititi has inked a deal to write and direct the fourth installment in the Thor franchise for Disney and Marvel Studios.
Unfortunately, the news of Waititi’s Thor gig will push back production of the live action Akira film the director was developing for Warner Brothers. Akira was scheduled to be released May 21, 2021 in theaters, but issues with the script have persisted and the production of a new Thor film will clash with the production date of Akira.
Chris Hemsworth is expected to return as the main character. Waititi’s next film JoJo Rabbit starring Scarlett Johansson will open in theaters October 18th.
