The Rundown: Superman’s quest to find the missing girl will call for a sacrifice if he’s going to succeed.
Superman’s quest to find the missing girl taken into space puts him in the ring with a mercenary named Mighto. Having set the terms for the fight, Mighto is set to bring down the Man of Steel by pushing him to his limits. Unfortunately, the alien knows nothing about what Superman’s limits are.
Later, an alien ship finds Superman’s nearly lifeless body floating in space and the ship’s healer discovers that there will be a high cost to bringing the man back from the brink of death. A cost that is echoed in the memories he shares with Superman.
The Story: While this story continues to be an interesting and compelling read, I felt this issue was a little disjointed in its storytelling. Both parts of the story worked really well on their own and the second part of the story was filled with deep emotion. Unfortunately, I never got a sense of where those two halves of the story connected. There just seemed to be something missing.
The Art: Andy Kubert’s art is amazing. The fight in the beginning of the issue is beautiful in its depictions of the characters and brutal in its depiction of the violence of the fight. A great looking issue to be sure.
