The Rundown: Superman surrenders to Brainiac and discovers the truth of Krypton’s last moments.
In order to save humanity from Brainiac’s attack, Superman is prepared to surrender to the creature. The people he protects and inspires have other ideas and rush in to protect the man of steel. Luthor decides to make an appearance at the last second before Brainiac takes Superman away and as his ship leaves the Earth, Superman will discover the scope of what Brainiac has planned for him in the form of a bottled city from Krypton where Kal-El is reunited with his parents.
As Lois writes up the story of Superman’s heroic surrender, Clark finds himself learning of how his parents survived the destruction of Krypton as well as telling them about his life on Earth. As he learns more about his mother and father, he is told that the city needs a new leader and Clark accepts. Back on Earth, Lois is lured to a meeting with Lex Luthor who tells her that he has a plan to bring back Superman.
The Story: Venditti crafts an entertaining and shocking story in this issue. There are some intriguing surprises in its pages and they have the potential to change everything about the series itself and its direction. I am intrigued with how this story is going to unfold and what directions it will take as it evolves.
The Art: Torres delivers some awesome art throughout the issue. There isn’t a lot of action to be found, but the atmosphere and characters are given gorgeous detail and attention.
