The Rundown: Superman has come to a decision and that decision will change everything in the Man of Steel’s world.
Superman finds himself in the middle of a conflict between warring factions. A by-product of his father’s actions, Clark feels the compulsion to put things right before heading back to the arms of his wife.
Lois, meanwhile, is grappling not only with writer’s block but also with the “gift” given to her by Lex Luthor. After talking to her and thinking about everything he’s lost recently, Superman enlists Kara and travels to New Krypton to inform her of a decision he’s made that will change everything.
The Story: Bendis has started a lot of storylines for the Man of Steel and many of them seem to be converging on this issue. While I continue to be interested in the overall story, I worry that there is so much going on that nothing will be resolved in a satisfactory way. There is a lot of buildup in this issue, but between the Year of the Villain, Zod, STAR Labs, Jon going to the future, Hidden Empire and Leviathan, Superman is spread thin and just seems to be reacting to things rather than being in control of anything in his life. I wish he actually took time in this issue to deal with the changes in his recent life rather than being throw back into the blender of stories he’s caught up in.
The Art: Kevin Maguire’s art is great. It is the perfect complement to the quieter tone of this issue and its themes.
