The Rundown: Waller recruits a new team and sends them into Arkham Asylum for another recruit.
Amanda Waller is tired of losing and she has decided that this latest iteration of the Suicide Squad will be proactive rather than reactive. A move that team leader Rick Flagg takes issue with and lets Waller know about. Unfortunately, he forgets who he’s working for and winds up in a cell because of it.
At the same time, the team she’s recruited breaks into Arkham Asylum to bring in the newest member of the squad before he realizes who he is, Talon. As Peacemaker and the others enter the man’s cell, he reacts violently. To make matters worse, a Joker gas attack on the facility will force the surviving members of the team to beat a hasty retreat. As Waller waits for her newest acquisition to arrive, she pays a visit to the person she is putting in charge of her new Suicide Squad whether he likes it or not.
The Story: Robbie Thompson creates an interesting premise with his new story. The team is certainly interesting and the adversarial relationship between Flagg and Waller is intriguing as well. The characters themselves don’t really have anything engaging or interesting about them so they amount to little more than cannon fodder used to highlight how ruthless Waller is becoming. The surprise at the end of the issue was well done though.
The Art: Pansica delivers some great art in this issue. The characters look dynamic and the action is brilliantly done.
