Once again, director Luc Besson has delivered a virtual feast for the eyes in the first trailer for his next film Valerian and the City of A Thousand Planets.

This newest trailer from the visionary director of The Fifth Element and Lucy delivers gorgeous cityscapes, new and interesting alien species and frenetic action as it weaves in hints of romance between the film’s main characters Valerian (Dane DeHaan) and Laureline (Cara Delevingne).

Based on the comic book series Valerian and Laureline by Pierre Christin and Jean-Claude Mezieres, the film follows Valerian and Laureline, operatives for the government of the human territories, as they try to maintain peace and order in the universe. Their mission brings them to Alpha, a city comprised of thousands of different alien species from all corners of the galaxy. While these species have developed a peaceful society built on sharing technology and knowledge, not everyone shares those beliefs and Valerian and his stalwart partner Laureline must stop the conspiracy to destroy this society.
