Strange Adventures #10
DC Comics
Written by Tom King
Art by Mitch Gerads and Evan “Doc” Shaner
Letters by Clayton Cowles
The Rundown: Alanna learns the truth of the war on Rann and how her husband is hiding a devastating secret.
The war is not going well for Earth and Alanna receives a letter from Mister Terrific laying out a series of events that have led him to the truth that both Alanna and Adam Strange have been trying to hide. As Alanna goes out into the world to continue to advocate for her husband and his agenda, the words of Terrific force her to question everything as he lays out all the circumstances that led both planets to this point and specifically why he was allowed to live by their greatest enemy.
On Rann, Adam’s account of the war continues to take center stage as more of his heroic adventures are revealed. As he takes command of the planet’s forces, frees captives and amasses a new army to fight back, Alanna is by his side every step of the way. Unfortunately, learning the terrible truth about what happened on Rann and how it directly links to the invasion of Earth will cause more than just tension with the couple.
The Story: Brilliantly told from start to finish. King had me riveted with each page, each reveal and every surprise. The story is mesmerizing in how it unfolds and King beautifully connects the dots for the reader in a way that takes you on the same emotional journey as Alanna. I am impressed with everything about this issue from start to finish and was blown away by the conclusion and its repercussions.
The Art: Gerads and Shaner deliver stunning art across every page. I love the visual style of the series and how both sides of the story utilize them.
