The Rundown: The students are split into two factions and Emily begins to embrace the darkness.
Strange Academy has split into two factions. One that has decided to stay, including Doyle, who continues to struggle with the prophecy that he doesn’t really understand and manifests his fear in class during a lesson on perception. A lesson that will lead to an intense battle to bring Doyle back into control. At the same time, Calvin’s time with Gaslamp will lead him to the dark truth of how he gets his power.
Emily and some of the other students have fled to the Dark Dimension and Zoe is concerned about the darkness taking over friend. A darkness that was directed at the Academy, but has now become directed to her friends as well. A darkness that is only growing stronger.
The Story: Young packs this issue with great tension throughout. I love how the different experiences of the characters work to craft a great story that is entertaining and thrilling. The story drew me in with great dialogue, stakes and drama for the characters involved and I love the ominous tone the story is taking. Emily is becoming a more interesting and nuanced character and Calvin’s journey is intriguing and dangerous.
The Art: Ramos crafts some beautiful art throughout the issue. The details of both the characters and the worlds they inhabit continue to draw me to this series.
