For every comic book fan and comic book movie fan who wanted their favorite director to helm a big screen comic book movie, well Steven Spielberg is about to give you what you want….sort of.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, director Steven Spielberg is jumping into the world of DC Comics to direct a feature film of Blackhawk. While many fans don’t know a lot about the character and his team, the choice is perfect for Spielberg in my opinion.
Blackhawk is the name of an elite squadron of pilots from various ethnicities who conduct daring and dangerous missions from their hidden base on Blackhawk Island. Created by Chuck Cuidera, Bob Powell and Will Eisner, the original stories took place during World War II. It hasn’t been confirmed when the movie will take place, but the director of Saving Private Ryan, Empire of the Sun, Indiana Jones and producer of Band of Brothers and The Pacific knows a little something about the era.
Jurassic Park and War of the Worlds writer David Koepp is writing the screenplay and Warner Brothers is excited to have the iconic filmmaker on board.
“We are so proud to be the studio behind Steven Spielberg’s latest hit, and are thrilled to be working with him again on this new action adventure,” said Warner Bros. Pictures Group chairman Toby Emmerich. “We can’t wait to see what new ground he will break in introducing ‘Blackhawk’ to movie audiences worldwide.”
