Deadline has an exclusive about the next project for the director of the upcoming adaptation of Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark.
According to the article, director Andre Ovredal has been tapped by New Line to direct the adaptation of Stephen King’s The Long Walk.
Originally published under King’s pseudonym Richard Bachman, The Long Walk centers on a dystopian future where one hundred teenage boys are collected and made to join an annual contest called “The Long Walk”. Each contestant is told to maintain a speed of four miles per hour and if any of them are in violation of the rules, they are shot.
The story has been up for adaptation several times by others including horror master George Romero, but it looks like New Line will be bringing the story to the big screen with direction from Ovredal and a script by James Vanderbilt (White House Down, Truth).
No casting or release date has been announced.
