Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of Frank Herbert’s classic science fiction epic Dune has just cast is main villain.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, actor Stellan Skarsgard has signed on to play the villainous Baron Vladimir Harkonnen in the upcoming adaptation alongside Timothee Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson and Dave Bautista.
Harkonnen is the previous ruler of Arrakis and plots with the Emperor to supplant House Atreides to take back the planet. The script was written by Villeneuve, Eric Roth and Jon Spaihts. Villeneuve is also producing, along with Mary Parent and Cale Boyter.
Skarsgard is known for his roles in films like Mama Mia: Here We Go Again, Thor, Marvel’s The Avengers and more. He will next be seen in the World War II drama The Painted Bird.
