The Rundown: John Henry Irons opens a new company with a new and unique mission.
John Henry Irons aka Steel has called a press conference to announce his new venture, Steelworks. A new company that will help the people of Metropolis defend themselves without the help of his superhuman friend who arrives to offer some moral support.
At the same time, someone with a connection to John’s past is given an offer by someone with an axe to grind. An offer that will put him on a collision course with Steelworks with the goal of bringing it down before their work can begin.
The Story: Dorn delivers an inventive, thought provoking and entertaining story in this first issue. The story has a really interesting premise and utilizes John Henry in a unique way that creates some intriguing personal drama as well as potential conflict with Superman. I love seeing the character move out of the shadow of the man of steel and become a more three dimensional character. I look forward to seeing where this story goes.
The Art: Sami Basri offers some fantastic art throughout the issue. Metropolis has always existed in the light and Basri’s art is vibrant and beautifully detailed along with its characters.
