The Bad Batch

Disney+

Season 2

Episodes 5-9

TV-PG

A multitude of familiar Star Wars characters appear in these action filled, world building focused episodes. I found this group of chapters to be the most similar to The Clone Wars in terms of storytelling and depth. Although much of the narrative is still focused on Omega, there is a maturity of perspective that will interest viewers of all ages.

Entombed
Run Time 29min
A mission to uncover a priceless artifact leads the Bad Batch and Phee Genoa into a high stakes adventure with unexpected results. This episode deals with pre-Republic era mythology and technological advances. Overall, I found this to be an exciting entry that left me wanting to know more about Phee and her previous exploits.

Tribe
Run Time 28min
Omega and the Bad Batch save a Wookie from the Vanguard Axis. They then head to Kashyyyk to reunite him with his people. This is another example of the aftereffects of the Empire’s reign of terror as the Tandoshians use imperial devices to wreak havoc. I was pleasantly surprised by the Jedi cameo from a familiar Clone Wars character. It’s nice to see focus being placed on the survivors of Order 66. I also appreciate how the Wookie’s and their culture are emphasized.

The Clone Conspiracy
Run Time 28min
When a fed-up clone reveals Admiral Rampart’s part in the destruction of Kamino, Senator Riyo Chuchi investigates. Meanwhile, the citizenship of the Clones is questioned, and the Senate considers conscripting new soldiers. Also, Senator Bail Organa and a familiar clone appears in this Bad Batch free episode. The topic of the Clone Trooper needs and treatment after being phased out in this episode, in many ways, mirror the conversations the US has in regard to its veterans. I found this rare, mature, and content heavy episode a treat.

Truth and Consequences
Run Time 31min
The fate of the clones is decided after Rex calls the Bad Batch to Coruscant for a covert operation to provide the Senate with the evidence of the Empire’s crimes on Kamino. Omega questions Senator Chuchi on the role of the Senate. A powerful villain makes a surprise appearance. This episode has themes of government corruption and overreach that are apropos for current societal commentary. This is perhaps my favorite episode of the series.

The Crossing
Run Time 29min
The Bad Batch travel to Cid’s mine on a hostile planet to harvest its resources. When a poacher obtains their ship, the group is forced to travel on foot to find shelter. During their travel an electrical storm causes them to be trapped in an abandoned mine. During this time, Omega deeply feels the absence of Echo’s presence. This is a youthful adventure that explores themes of loss and forward movement.
