Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi
Disney Plus
Season 1 Episode 4
Part IV
Obi-Wan plots a daring mission into enemy territory.
Obi-Wan has been rescued and drifts in and out of consciousness as he finds himself in a bacta tank to begin healing from his burns. The episode does a great job of contrasting that moment to Vader being in his own tank. I love seeing that moment as the two deal with their physical pain in similar environments and how Obi-Wan is still being ruled by his guilt.
At the same time, Leia is confronted by Reva in a scene that is chilling, but really just feels more like an excuse for Reva to be unnecessarily cruel. Obi-Wan meets more members of the underground and hears what happened to a force sensitive woman who was just trying to live her life with her husband. It’s a powerful moment played well by O’Shea Jackson Jr.
Obi-Wan decides to go after Leia and it will require undertaking a dangerous mission to the Inquisitor’s base. What I really enjoy about this moment is that Tala seems to be taking a lot of the risk. Indira Varma is an amazing actor and I love that she is given more to do than just tag along. We also get to learn more about Reva during her interrogation of Leia and there’s some great tension as Obi-Wan attempts to sneak around the Inquisitor base.
Things get more dangerous for Leia and Tala has to do something drastic to give Obi-Wan time to find her. Another tense confrontation ensues and we get to see Obi-Wan back in action. The action is thrilling. The escape from the base starts off really cheesy, but ends with some great action and an awesome return.
The episode does a great job of showing the evolution of the characters as well as the stakes of what they are up against. Not everyone gets away unscathed and the episode ends with even more tension that it started.
