At the giant concert hall on Man Cala, the Moff of the territory is late and his absence is noticed by everyone in attendance. C-3PO comes out to introduce the “Moff” and he is a little too showy in his entrance. A reminder to the readers of the previous issue that this is not the real Moff, but a shape changing con-man busted out of prison to take his place.
While the actor is soaking in the show with 3PO and R2 keeping an eye on him, the real Moff and the rebels are running for their lives from a giant sea creature. It’s a scene eerily reminiscent of the beginning of The Phantom Menace. Something, I hope, was coincidental. Luke decides to try something desperate to get the looming creature off their backs in a sequence that was actually really cool to read and see. Hats off to Larroca for those panels and the last part of that bit was absolutely hilarious.
Meanwhile, 3PO continues to struggle to keep his charge in line as the intermission in the show tests their would-be distraction. Cracks are starting to form in the Moff’s performance and the head of state for Mon Cala is starting to notice the changes in the Moff’s behavior and mannerisms since the last time they were together.
Leia and her team make their way to the underwater prison and manage to infiltrate it fairly easily. As they start to get confident that their rescue mission is going to succeed, a wrench in the works shows that getting out of the prison might be a lot harder than they thought.
This was an enjoyable issue with some really cool moments that are in keeping with these characters that we know so well. 3PO is given some great dialogue and the end of the issue adds just enough additional tension to make me want to see what happens next.
